Trouble walking after ankle injury year ago

12 months ago I rolled my right foot and ankle inwards as a result of it I was on crutches for 8 months. Had intense physio and after seeing 3 different physios I got worse that I can not walk at all. I need someone to lean on and if I let go I have no balance. I am getting massages on my lower back legs and feet trying to free up my stiff ankle. I cannot dorsiflex and I can not roll my foot in a circle both ways. I do not know what is stopping me from walking and its getting me down. Had a MRI and it showed no fracture no tendon damage just a high arch and thick lining on my archilles tendon. Is there anything I can do? I am not in pain. My foot was swollen every day but since the massages no swelling all of a sudden which is great. Many thanks in advance.

Hello and thank you for your question. Why were you on crutches for 8 months? That is an extremely long time that is never necessary for even an ankle fracture. Being on crutches that long can cause a lot of muscle and nerve atrophy. This doesn’t present an what you would expect after an ankle sprain and without seeing you I cannot give an accurate recommendation. I do do online consults through my practice if you want more detailed evaluation (www.dremilysplichal.com). Thanks.
