Top Foot Pain

I have been having pain in the top middle area of my foot for the last month or so, but it has continued to get worse over the last week or so. It hurts no matter what shoes I wear. If I wear flip flops with a wider strap and it rubs in the right spot it hurts, if I wear sneakers it hurts and I end up undoing the laces, and even when I wear slip on clogs it hurts. When I touch the foot there is a very specific spot that hurts when pushed on. My toes feel fine as well as the bottom of my foot. Any ideas?

Hello and thank you for the question. It sounds like you may have a stress fracture. I have seen stress fractures in both runners and non-runners. Stress fractures typically present as a sharp pain on a specific spot with possible swelling and redness on the top of the foot. I recommend seeing a Podiatrist who can Xray your foot and guide the most appropriate treatment. Not all stress fractures show up on Xray, but the Podiatrist will be able to clinically diagnosis a stress fracture despite the lack of appearance on Xray. If it is a stress fracture you will want to get in a stiff bottom shoe and minimize your activity.

    Good luck!
