Top foot near top right of ankle

Hello I have had an annoying pain that comes and goes. It is located at the beginning of my foot, the front of my left leg, in between the outer ankle bone, and the top of the arch. It’s almost like a small pocket. This pain keeps me up at night and is similar to what I would guess is a restless feeling. It is more aggregated when I flex my foot up or down or rotate my foot. My Dr. seems clueless to what it could be. Also I sometimes have to massage the area for long to sleep or tie a sock around the area to relieve the feeling/pain. I did break that ankle when I was 5 but being 36 now and the pain just starting the last year or 2, I would think it unlikely the two are related. Same weight etc. last 10 years.

Hello and thank you for your question.

Without examining your foot or seeing exactly where you are describing, it is hard for me to say exactly. However I will give you the following advice. I advise all my patients that to alleviate foot pain, they need to address inflammation and stress to the foot at the same time.

To address inflammation, you can ice your foot or take oral anti-inflammatories. To alleviate stress to your foot you can stretch your calves, roll your foot on a golf ball, wear supportive shoes and avoid excessive impact (walking / running).

If your pain does not decrease after doing the above every single day for 2 weeks then I would seek further evaluation by a Podiatrist.

    I hope this helps!
