Toenail injury

I got a toenail injury four months ago causing the big nail to fall off. As it grew back the skin on the nail bed turned hard, shiny, swollen, white yellow, and smooth. Is this bad or normalize?

Hello and thank you for your question. Without examining your toe or seeing a picture it is difficult for me to accurately diagnose or advise on this. It is common after losing a toenail to expose the nail bed to fungus, yeast and mold which can then grow resulting in a thick, yellow, brittle nail. This may or may not be the case however if you’d like to take preventive measures you can start to use a topical nail laquer (Terbinafine) or use topical tea tree oil. If you prefer to have a Podiatrist evaluate your nai lin person they would be able to recommend if a prescription anti-fungal is appropriate. I hope this helps.
