Toe surgery

I have just gone to see my doctor for a nail pressure issue and he told me that because my toe is not straight and it curls in when I he has to remove a tendon from the back of the toe to straighten it out in order to alleviate my pain. Now does that mean that I have to have surgery and is it an elective or is it required for me.

I would love an answer because this toe is now touching the bottom of my foot and it stays there

Hello and thank you for your question. Sounds like he is describing bunion surgery however there is more involved in bunion surgery than simply “removing a tendon.” If you are not looking to have bunion surgery but still have nail issues then you will have to address the nail issues differently.

Bunion surgery is only a recommended option but not required. If you feel the explanation was not clear by this first doctor then I’d get a second opinion to discuss your options.

    Good luck.
