Tingling and burning in my right foot

Hello Doctor. I’ve been experiencing occasional tingling and burning in my right foot and lower leg and sometimes even the thigh. I don’t know if it is coming from my hip or foot? I am healthy, sit at work but very active at gym, no history of back injury. I”m a little concerned because the numbness is every day. Thanks.

    Thank you for your question.

The tingling and burning symptoms you are experiencing are most likely related to nerve pressure or stickiness somewhere along it’s track. The nerves that supply our foot and lower leg brand out of the lower back or lumbar spine which means that they have a long way to go to get all the way down to the foot.

Any tightness in a muscle or fascia can trap the nerve and almost like a kink in a hose can disrupt nerve signals. In patients experiencing symptoms similar to yours I recommend stretching the hips, glutes and calves to see if this alleviates the symptoms.

In addition you can consider nerve protective supplements such as L-methyl folate and alpha lipoic acid. If your symptoms persist past 2 weeks then I would recommend seeing an orthopedist or physiatrist to rule out any low back / disc issues.

    I hope this helps.
