Stress fracture in my fifth metatarsal

I think I may haves stress fracture in my fifth metatarsal.

It hurts after I have soccer, sometimes during practice, and when I am walking around my house, but not running always… Any thoughts as to what it might be? It hurts when I press on the top and the bottom of my foot, and when I bend my toes too far. The pain is right along the outside of my foot, along the metatarsal, mostly in the mid shaft. Please let me know what you think it might be. 🙂 I have also sprained that ankle 4+ times, if that helps, and I do wear a brace for it now.

Thanks in advance for a response!

Hello and thank you for your question. If you are suspecting a stress fracture, I recommend seeing a Podiatrist and getting an X-ray. Although stress fractures do not always show on an X-ray, a Podiatrist should be able to diagnose a stress fracture clinically. If it is a stress fracture you will want to limit your activity with a surgical shoe and if possible a bone stimulator. If it is not a stress fracture the Podiatrist would be able to better asses you and give you an appropriate treatment. Good luck!
