sore left foot

In july 2012 I fractured the side of my food by standing on a shoe! I had a cast on for 4 weeks but had to have it taken off early because I went to spain.

My foot was fine after its been fine for a while now,
Its been sore recently, sometimes to walk on and sometimes to move it in circles.

What can this be?

Hello and thank you for your question. Without examining you it is difficult for me to say exactly what may be going on – but will try to guide you in the right direction.

On the side of our foot we have several ligaments and tendons. The tendons along the outside of the foot are the peroneals. These muscles and tendons play an important role in stabilizing our ankle. If we stand for a prolonged period of time or walk excessively these tendons can become irritated. I would start by stretching your calves or doing self-massage to the side of your lower leg. Icing the area of the tendons or taking an anti-inflammatory can often alleviate some pain as well.

If your pain persists I recommend seeing a Podiatrist who can better evaluate you and determine the cause of your pain. Good luck!
