Sharp pain in right foot and ankle

Hi Dr. Splichal,
My right foot and ankle have been bothering me for a couple weeks now. I get a pretty constant pain in my foot and ankle pretty often in the day. It is a sharp pain whenever I bend my foot and when I have it flat, I am not sure what this is or what it causing it. If you have any idea what it could be, where to proceed from here, or something to do to help it feel better that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Thank you for the question. Without examining you it is difficult for me to say exactly what may be causing your pain but it sounds like it may be anterior ankle pain. Do you have any history of trauma to the ankle? Have you ever sprained your ankle? Have you ever felt this pain before? The answers to these questions will better help guide possible causes of the ankle pain and treatment options. In the mean time, I recommend avoid activities that stress your ankle. I would avoid excess stair climbing, running or jumping until the area calms down. If you haven’t seen a Podiatrist yet, I recommend seeing one if your pain persists. Good luck!
