Sharp pain in the front of my foot

Hello Doctor, I recently started doing barre classes a couple times a week. Every time I go onto releve’ I get a sharp pain in the front of my foot. It doesn’t hurt any other time except when I go onto the ball of my foot. I don’t recall any injury and am very frustrated as I love taking these classes. Any ideas what it may be? Thank you

Hello and thank you for your question.

Sounds like you may be experiencing either neuroma pain or a small “sprain” or capsulitis of your toe joint. The exact location of the pain will help determine which you are actually experiencing.

If the pain prevents you from taking your barre class then I’d suggest seeing a Podiatrist who can offer you treatment options such as a steroid injection.

In addition you can try a metatarsal pad which takes the pressure off of the ball of the foot.
