Sharp Pain in Foot

Hello, I am training for the NYC marathon so been increasing my mileage. I started to notice a sharp pain in my foot when I run. I used to only feel it when running and now I feel it when walking. I’m scared it’s a stress fracture and I won’t be able to run the marathon. Please help!

Hello and thank you for your question.

If you haven’t seen a Podiatrist yet I would recommend getting an X-ray and a more detailed examination. If it is in fact a stress fracture then you will want to get into a stiff bottom shoe or camwalker to allow the bone to heal as quickly as possible.

Depending on how quickly you get off the foot can determine how quickly you can heal. Shortest recovery I have for patients is 2 weeks, going up to 6 – 8 weeks.

It may not be a stress fracture but it is in your best interest to not ignore this and to get the correct diagnosis right away.

    I hope this helps!
