Severe sharp achilles pain on left side

Hello,

My name is Monique, I’m 46 and very active. I have been having problems with my left achilles for the last 4 months. It is not like anything I have ever experienced. It is like a complete shock severe pain that can make me crumble, I was in a meeting at work today and the pain made me have to pinch my achilles and breathe. When I first had this problem it was just as painful but shorter and it completely went away. It has come back and it is worse. I have two bad knees, I have
Osteoarthritis in the left one, the other, I tore my Meniscus years ago. Perhaps I have nerve damage now? What do you think? Please help if you can. Thank you!

Hello and thank you for your question.

If you haven’t seen a Podiatrist yet I would definitely recommend seeing someone in person. In the meantime I would recommend avoiding flats, flip flops, and non-supportive shoes. I would also start by releasing your calves and bottom of the feet daily.

You can use a golf ball, tennis ball or I recommend to my patients to use a RAD Roller (www.radroller.com). Typically, tight calves can begin to stress our Achilles tendon. Rest can only work to a certain degree before we need to see medical opinion.

    I hope this helps!
