Over-pronation and flat feet

Hello Doc,

So, I have flat feet and over pronation, is it common for those two to happen like that? It is extremely hard to find dress shoes that does not gap on the side where the arch is suppose to be. Are there shoes or insoles that you can recommend, that I can use to put inside dress shoes that will stop the over pronation without me having to go for surgery?
I been thinking of surgery such as the Hypro-cure, but I don`t want to rush into surgery right now if there are other ways to take care of my over pronation.

Thank you in advance.

Hello Connie – thank you for your question.

Without seeing your feet I cannot give exact recommendations as all flat fleet are slightly different, however a great place to start would be either over the counter inserts or custom orthotics.

As far as over the counter orthotics, I recommend Aetrex Lyncos to my patients (www.aetrex.com). In addition to inserts, Aetrex has supportive dress shoes that are stylish. And as far as the surgery it may be something to consider, however please know that the Hypro-cure is not for all patients. It is something that you’ll have to discuss with your surgeon in detail.

    I hope this helps!
