Pain under toes

I went for a 3 mile walk 3 weeks ago. I live in Wisconsin. The roads are slippery, so I wore my yak tracks on my shoes for added traction. About a mile into my walk, my 3 toes in the middle of my big and pinky toe began to hurt, as well as the area just below these toes. I continued to walk, stopping every once in a while to move my toes to stretch them. I haven’t been able to go for a walk since. The area just under the 3 toes, and my 3 toes hurt when walking. I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

Hello and thank you for your question.

Sounds like you may have an acute flare – up/inflammation of the small joints of the foot. This is common during excessive walking, running or dynamic movement – especially in new shoes or footwear you are not used to wearing.

I would try to decrease your movement as much as possible; you can take anti-inflammatories and even try to tape the digits together. You can also look up on the internet buddy splint toes. If you pain persists after 1 week of doing this then I would see a Podiatrist and get an x-ray. The toes may require a stiff bottom shoe or steroid injection if the inflammation is too much.

    I hope this helps!
