Pain when doing certain zumba moves

Hi I have pain when I start running or doing certain zumba moves. The outer side between pinkie and heel on both feet. I have to take my shoes off and rub out before I can continue and have to repeat throughout work out. What can this be?

Hello and thank you for your question.

Sounds like you may be experiencing peroneus tendonitis. What I suggest trying first is stretching your calves and hips at least 10 minutes every single day – including days that you do not workout. In addition roll the bottom of your foot on a golf ball or tennis ball at least 5 minutes a day.

Our peroneal tendons stabilize our ankles when we walk, jump, run – or in this case – dance! If you wanted, you could ice the area or take oral anti-inflammatories to assist in reducing the inflammation.

If the pain persists after trying this for at least 1 – 2 weeks then I would see a Podiatrist who can better evaluate you. Good luck!
