Pain for 7 years

I have seen 3 Podiatrists over the last 7 years and none have provided me with a solution that relieves my pain. My left foot started out with just pain on the top of my foot. Then I started experiencing sharp pains in my arch. Then I started experiencing sharp pain in my toes. Here are the things 3 doctors have said to me: do physical therapy…I did and it made things worse. No relief in pain. Try ice…I did, no relief in pain. I have been given 2 different anti inflammatory medications and neither have worked. I even bought an anti inflammatory cream and got no results. I have tried various orthotics and sports tape…no relief. In fact, with the orthotics and sports tape I experienced pain and numbness in my foot when I walk.

My foot hurts whether I have shoes on or off, orthotics or no orthotics, sports tape or no sports tape, medication or no medication. I have spent $1000s of dollars these last 7 years on shoes, tape, orthotics, cushioning, therapy, doctor visits and a nerve study. Not one thing has helped. These 3 doctors can’t even agree on what the problem is. The x-rays show a bone spur on the top and bottom of my foot. I had a nerve study done and found that the results show that NO nerves are being affected. My mobility has been severely reduced. I can’t walk without limping and now I experience pain occasionally in the bottom of my right foot. I used to run 6 miles a day and was in very good shape.

Now I am 70 pounds overweight, have no job and no health insurance. I had to quit my job 3 months ago because the pain was so bad that my blood pressure was high. I have not been able to find a job that doesn’t require a lot of time on your feet because it is obvious that I can’t be on my foot at all. So what do I do? What am I missing?

    Hello and thank you for your question. I’m sorry to hear you are in pain. Without examining you it is hard for me to say exactly. However I would start looking at alternative medicine.

    Have you done any acupuncture? Have you looked to see your inflammatory markers? Have you tried daily myofascial release and mobility of your feet? Have you tried deep core stabilization?

    This is the direction I would start going if you have exhausted all other options.
