Over the counter Orthotics

Hello,

I have been diagnosed with achilles heel tendonitis and the podiatrist recommend that I get custom orthotics, however they cost $300. I cannot afford to pay for these. I read that full length flexible orthotics are good. Can you recommend any over the counter ones? He also recommended a night splint in additon to icing and streching.

Thanks, Carol

    Hello Carol,
What I meant is L420, L520, L620…(different in style) etc.
You can go to http://www.aetrex.com/custom-lynco-orthotics/ to find an ideal one.

Thank you Dr Splichal, did you mean the L series in the orthotics? I can’t seem to find a X20 series online?
    Thanks, Carol

Hello Carol, thank you for your question. The best OTC orthotics that I recommend to patients are Aetrex Lynco inserts. Based off of your foot type, their inserts have posting or wedging in the heel. If you have a flatter foot then I recommend the X20 series.

A night splint is good as this will increase you ankle mobility or calf flexibility. I often recommend patients with Achilles tendonitis also do eccentric training such as walking backward on a treadmill and negative heel raises.

    Good luck!
