Outside of foot hurts after 2.5 months, not broken

I jumped down off a high stool and landed wrong on the right foot. Bruised on the top near my toes, along the right side, all the way back to my ankle. Throbbed for at least a month along the outside metatarsal and cuboid bone. Couldn’t walk without bad pain for the first month. Then throbbing stopped, and pain was only when I walked.

Rested forever. Barely have walked. No exercise (boo). Still hurts to walk on it, but the pain was pretty much gone when wearing shoes, so I walked less than a km. Now the outside is hurting quite a bit again. Got an x-ray and the technician said there was no fracture or break.

Could it be a bruised bone or something? How long do those typically take to heal? I’m a runner and don’t want to cause any long term damage like I did with my left knee. Learned my lesson!

Hello and thank you for your question. Without examining your foot it is difficult for me to say however it’s important to note that not all fractures will show up on x-ray. If you have not seen a Podiatrist I would recommend having your foot evaluated in person and if an MRI is appropriate this may be recommended.

In the meantime, I’d try to not push it too hard just in case there is a small fracture that was missed on your x-ray.
