medial foot pain

Dear Doctor,
About six to eight weeks ago I started having pain on the medial calcaneal tuberical very sharp. Since I have tingling feeling along the medial calcanious. It also hurts to stand most and upon sitting for awhile. I figure it is plantar faciitis but am having a hart time treating it. I also have a half marathon coming up ajd need to finish it before taking time off. I dont have the rising pain in the am but the tingling 8s the most unnerving part. Also I have orthotic that seem to now make it worse when before they really helped.

Hello and thank you for the question.

Sounds like you may have more of a nerve impingement or tarsal tunnel syndrome. This is treated a little bit differently than typical plantar fasciitis. If you have not seen a Podiatrist yet I would as they can better guide in how you can manage the nerve pain while you control the cause of the nerve pain.

If you are not taking anti-inflammatories I would start, as this will help keep the nerve inflammation under control. The orthotics are more important that the stretching, however if it is more painful when you wear them it may be due to pressure on the nerve. Again I’d see a Podiatrist for a more specific work-up.

    Good luck!
