    Thank you for your question.

Foot fusions are difficult procedures as all of the normal movement of the joints is now translated to the ankles and knees, as well as into the soft tissue. Normal midfoot motion is how our foot absorbs ground reactions forces when we walk – so if these joints are fused then the ground reaction forces go into the soft tissue. When I have a patient who has had any type of foot fusion, maintaining flexibility in the surrounding soft tissue is of uptmost importance. You can begin my integrating some calf and peroneal stretches, as well as some trigger point release to the soft tissue.

If you are unfamililar with trigger point release look up a company called TP Therapy ( as they have some great products for soft tissue recovery. If the pain persists I would see the doctor who originally did your surgery and see if you can get a referral to physical therapy. Good luck!
