Longer Second Toe

My second toe is longer than my first and only on my right foot. This always seems to pose a problem when buying shoes as I need to purchase a larger size for the foot with the longer toe. However, the larger size is always too big for the foot without it. Any suggestions on how to accommodate this odd occurrence?

Hello and thank you for your question. You have what is called a Morton’s toe. This mean that your 2nd toe is longer than your first. This can definitely create difficulty when buying shoes. Often times patients with this Morton’s toe end up wearing smaller shoes which creates excess pressure on the toe, causing it to become contracted – or hammered. There is surgery that can be done to shorten the toe and is a relatively straight forward procedure. If you are interested in learning more about the surgery I recommend speaking to a Podiatrist.

    Good luck!
