left foot pain

Over the last few weeks I have had a slight pain in my foot/ankle when getting up in the morning. This has gradually gotten worse and I am now in agony every time I walk. The pain is coming from the outside of my foot and just underneath. It is causing me to walk funny and I am now getting leg pain from it.

I have tried rest and support bandages but this hasn’t helped. Could you please give me some advice.

Hello and thank you for your question.

Without examining you it is difficult for me to say exactly what may be causing your pain. However if you have not done rolling of your foot on a golf ball (5 minutes every day), stretching calves (5 minutes every day) and NSAIDs (as directed every day) for at least 7 – 10 days I would start here. Simply resting may not be enough to decrease the inflammation/pain you are experiencing.

In addition I would reduce your activity and make sure you are avoiding excessive impact (running, jumping). If you are not better in 7 – 10 days then I would see a Podiatrist in person to better evaluate you.

    I hope this helps!
