Left Foot – between heel and arch pain

Hi – I am an avid runner and have dealt with plantar fasciitis for years. I have customer orthodics, etc. Lately I have been experiencing pain on the inside of my left foot in the area between the heal and the toes. When running this morning I had to stop due to the intensity. I have fractured bones many times so I know what that feels like and this is not it. I was thinking of riding the bike or the elyptical for a bit. Any advice?

Hello and thank you for your question. Sounds like it may either be a flare of of your plantar fasciitis or posterior tibialis. Depending on your foot type and the severity of your symptoms I would recommend not running for 2 weeks. During this 2 week period consider using an ASO brace all day, followed by roling the bottom of the foot and calf 10 minutes daily. You can use a foam roller or RAD Roller (www.radroller.com). Follow the foam rolling with 10 minutes of icing the foot. If you do the above for 2 weeks and your pain persists then I recommend seeing a Podiatirst who can evaluate in person. Good luck!
