Itching at night only

I have recently started being awakened iin the night with itching on the sole of my foot! What might the cause be? I take benadryl and use an over the counter itch cream and try hard to not scratch it. There are no visible abnormalities and it isn’t every night. Thus ruling out bug bite, scabies, psoriasis, etc. Thank you for your time.

No scaling or dry skin. I use lotion daily as well as coconut oil if my skin seems dry. The puzzling thing is it doesn’t happen every night. I can go 5-6 days in between times. I have my suspicions that I might be becoming diabetic. My dad was a diabetic before he passed away. Is this really a sign of diabetes or is that a myth?

Hello and thank you for your question. To accurately answer this question I’d really need to see your foot – especially if it is a dermatological issue. It is quite possible it is a fungal infection.

If you have been doing only topical steroids and nothing for the fungus then it can persist. Fungal infections can appear as scaling, redness, and dry skin.

If it is a fungal infection it can take up to 2 months to resolve. If you can submit a picture this will help in accurately answering this question. Thank you.
