Intermittent pain in left foot

For about a month now I’ve been experiencing pain localized to my left foot that only presents when I stand after I’ve been sitting down for awhile. I walk around with a slight limp for a little while because of it, and then it goes away as I continue to walk around. It feels like it’s mostly on the top of the foot on the left side. Thank you for your help in trying to identify what it might be.

Thank you for your question. Without examining you I cannot say exactly what may be causing your pain, however I will give general guidelines. In any patient presenting with foot pain, I always want to rule out trauma. Do you remember dropping anything on your foot? Walking excessively? Or doing a new activity or wearing new shoes? All of these things can shift the pressure on the foot, leading to overuse injury to the small joints and ligaments in the foot. Does anything relieve the pain?

Often times changing our shoes or wearing more supportive shoes can alleviate the stress placed on the foot and therefore decrease foot pain. If your pain persists, I would recommend seeing a podiatrist who can better examine you and take an x-ray. Good luck!

I may have a solution for you that won’t cost you a penny. I too sometimes had excruciating foot pain (and sometimes leg pain) to the point I was practically unable to walk. Then at other times there would be absolutely no pain at all and everything felt normal. By chance, I found very simple sure-fire solutions for each problem: POSTURE. Prevention of occasional leg “lameness”: NEVER CROSS YOUR LEGS (not even at the ankles). Prevention of occasional foot pain: ESPECIALLY WHEN SITTING, KEEP YOUR FEET FLAT ON THE FLOOR. Do not rest your foot on its side or propped up behind you. These two “posture” remedies have worked miracles for me. One other helpful piece of advice: Get and stay thin, if you can.
