Ingrown toenails

I’ve had toenails removed from several toes due to ingrown toenails. Is it possible that there are still pieces remaining under the skin?

Hello and thank you for your question. Yes it is possible that there can be a nail spicule under the skin. The area of the toe that you may see this the most is the lower corners. If you still notice pain or drainage along where the nail was removed it is suggestive that there is still a nail that is ingrowing. I would go back to your Podiatrist and they may need to try to remove more of the nail. Good luck!
