I have suffered with ingrown toenails in the past and recently had surgery to remove one. Do you recommend anything that might be helpful in preventing any reoccurrences?
Hello and thank you for the question. There are various reasons of why patients get ingrown toenails – some of it could be from the way we walk, the shoes we wear or sports we play. Some tips I always give my patients is to always cut the nails square, try to avoid clipping the corners at an angle, avoid tight shoes that put pressure on the top or sides of the toenail and visit your Podiatrist at first signs of recurrence. In many patients I treat, a partial nail avulsion will provide sufficient relief for several years. Good luck!
