Infection in toe after corn removal

I currently had a corn on the side of my left big toe (first one ever). Used corn and callus remover, (17% w/w salicylic acid), along with corn pads. The corn is now gone but it seems that I have developed a slight infection in the area that it was removed from. Was wondering what the best treatment for that would be. I work on my feet for 10+ hours at a time and up and down ladders the whole time. Thank you in advance for your advice.

Hello and thank you for your question. If you do have a true infection then I would see a Podiatrist as an oral antibiotic may be necessary.

If you have not been using a topical antibiotic such as bacitracin or Neosporin and dressing it in dry gauze, I would start this immediately. If it is a true infection you will want to clean it clean and dry.

    Good luck.
