high arches

I have high arches. I have been wearing arch supports in my shoes. Now my ankle hurts and socks feel too tight near the ankle. When should arch supports be worn?

Hello and thank you for the question. Not all high arched feet need to use arch supports. It is possible that your arch supports are throwing you onto the side of your foot – causing ankle pain. If you feel like your arches get tired at the end of the day that is typically normal and you can do stretches to release your feet. If you do not have pain in your feet but now have ankle pain because of the use of the arch supports you may want to consider taking them out. If you want a full assessment from a Podiatrist to see if biomechanically you would benefit from inserts, that may be something to consider. Good luck!
