help! How serious is this, what is this, should my friend see a doctor?

my friend has a growing large hard lump on the medial side of his foot, above or just to the side of approximately the first cuneiforms. It’s very sensitive to the touch, red and hard. When flexed, it looks a bit like he has second ankles on both feet. When pointed, it goes away a little. He’s trying to use ski boots on top of this (and I believe perhaps it could be making it worse).

Advice?

Thanks.

Thank you for your question. Although most soft tissue lesions in the foot are benign I would still recommend your friend see a Podiatrist who can better evaluate the soft tissue mass. Most soft tissue masses require identification by MRI and then treatment options can be discussed based on the results. In the mean time I would avoid excess pressure to the soft tissue mass until it is confirmed it is a benign lesion.

    Good luck!
