Heel spur

I have a lump on the back of my foot which has been diagnosed as a heel spur. Since I live in FL it is easy enough to wear backless shoes most of the time. OOFOS have been incredible for comfort and support. However, what is the suggestion for long-term? I’ve been told that the spur can be shaved off but that seems a bit uncomfortable and extreme. Any suggestions. Joyce

Hello and thank you for your question. From a long term perspective you can speak about possible excision of the spur. Often times with spurs there is an increased risk of partial tears due to the amount of tension and degeneration of the tendon. If you have not had an MRI of your foot I’d suggest getting this done if you are considering having the spur shaved down. This would then show if there is also a tear or degeneration of the tendon. I hope this helps!
