Heel pain when walking now due to past ankle sprain?

Hello, I recently started an internship in a downtown city and have to park about 30 minutes (walking distance) away. A few years ago I had a severe ankle sprain and have had discomfort ever since. Since I started walking to and from work, the discomfort has intensified and I now have pain in my heel. To me, my injured ankle has always looked larger compared to the uninjured ankle.

Hello and thank you for your question. I’d start by making sure you are walking to / from work in proper footwear. This means cushioned sneakers or shoes. In addition since you are now stressing your feet more I’d ensure you are rolling your feet at least 10 minutes every evening on a golf ball or RAD Roller (www.radroller.com) and stretch your calves for at least 5 minutes every night. If your pain persists after doing this every single night for 1 week then I’d see a Podiatrist who can better evaluate your heel and ensure you do not have plantar fasciitis. I hope this helps!
