Healing time for ingrown toenail?

I had my ingrown toenail removed almost 4 weeks ago and part of my toe is still red and swollen…it doesn’t hurt unless I apply pressure on the area and even when i do apply pressure its not horrible pain just sensitive. There isn’t any pus and the area is dry. Is this normal for 4 weeks after the procedure? If it makes any difference, the doctor used acid so that part of the nail wont grow back?

Hello and thank you for your question. Honestly I’d need to see your toe to see if there is still some nail that may be ingrown or if this is a normal presentation. Usually after a nail avulsion – including when the phenol is used – you should return to normal within 1 – 2 weeks. If pain persists 4 weeks later you may want to see the Podiatrist just to have them ensure all is healing properly. You can also try to soak the foot in epsom salt and warm water for a couple days to see if it reduces the redness. I hope this helps.
