Hammer toe on left foot

Ive recently had a hammertoe surgery on my second toe on my left foot it was the joint that’s closest to the tip of the toe. I wasn’t in much pain before the surgery but I was told it could get worse so I decided to have surgery. my doctor said the toe is having problems with fusing and I’m having some pain in that toe. I was wandering is there any way to have this surgery reversed? Thanks.

Hello and thank you for your question.

Unfortunately you cannot reverse hammertoe surgery as part of the procedure requires the surgeon to remove bone. The part of the bone that is removed is the joint surface. If you are having persistent pain then you may want to consider a revision surgery where fusion is attempted again.

Although depending on how long ago you had the procedure your pain levels may continue to decrease with time.

    I hope this helps!
