Fractured foot healing process?

hello. i was diagnosed with a metatarsal stress fracture, possibly more than 1. it has been 3 weeks since i recently started experiencing pain and 2 weeks since i saw a podiatrist. she put me in a boot for 4 weeks, but it doesn’t feel like it’s healing..it still hurts a lot and the pain feels like it’s getting worse. how long do these fractures usually take to fully heal or do they not always heal right??? thanks for any information.

Hello and thank you for your question. Depending on when the stress fracture was diagnosed (meaning how long you were walking on it for while fractured) can dictate how long it takes to heal. If you catch a stress fracture early it can take as quick as 2 weeks to heal however if you prolong the diagnosis by walking on it then it can take up to 6 weeks to heal. The treatment is immobilization with a camwalker or surgical shoe. You can also use an ACE bandage to add compression which often helps patients and you can start to take Vit D3 and Vit K2 to improve your bone healing. If you still have pain at 6 weeks then it would be concerning but right now you are presenting as normal. I hope this helps!
