Foot pain walking down the stairs

Hi doctor
I really need help identifying what is wrong. Whenever I walk the back of my feet ache and hurt and it’s difficult walking down the stairs as well. Also it seems to be swollen around the ankle and lower back of foot area. Please help?

    Hello and thank you for your question.

    Sounds like you are describing the area of the Achilles tendon. We use the Achilles tendon with every step and when going down stairs. If there is any lack of flexibility in the Achilles tendon or it is overworked, then tendonitis can develop.

    This tendonitis must be addressed with limited activity, NSAIDs, massage, stretching, eccentric calf exercises and ice. If the pain persists for more than 2 weeks, then I would see a Podiatrist for a more in depth evaluation.
