foot pain throughout the foot

I woke up with my left foot swollen and very tender. I have not injured it in any way. when I step down on it, I have pain shooting through it. the last two toes are turning sideways. I went to the er and all they did was x-ray it. she said it wasn’t broken and sent me home. It feels like the bones are grinding into each other. What do you suggest the problem may be?

Thank you for the question Phylliss and sorry to hear you are having foot pain!

If you are having that severe of foot pain I would see a Podiatrist right away as they are better trained to rule out more foot-specific foot pathology.

The x-ray taken in the ER is a good first step but the Podiatrist will be able work you up for any stress fractures, tendonitis, inflammatory or autoimmune causes for foot pain.

    Good luck!
