Foot Pain Not Sure of Type of Shoes

I have really bad foot pain, mornings and if I am on my feet anymore then 10 mins at a time. Barefoot can only handle about 5 mins of the pain. It is the balls of my feet and the heels also along the sides not the arch side though the opposite. I am wanting to buy shoes after the 1st of the month but have no ides what kind to get because it is in many areas of the feet that hurt. I do have RA which I am taking methrexate for and Fibromyalgia. I am just not sure if I should look at walking shoes, running shoes or what. Or if they should be stiff soles or flexible ones.

Hello and thank you for your question.

Whenever I have a patient with diffuse foot pain and conditions such as RA, OA, fibromyalgia recommend a shoe that has a heat-molded plastazote insole. These can conform to your foot offering better pressure / weight distribution.

If you cannot find any with the plastazote you can consider memory foam inserts as they act similar. In addition to the proper footwear I recommend daily calf stretching and rolling the bottom of the foot on a golf ball or tennis ball. The shoes are part of the answer but so is foot mobility and foot recovery.

    Good luck!
