The outside of my foot is swollen close to the baby toe. It feels jelly like and appears to be inflamed. Very uncomfortable and painful

Thank you for your question. Sounds like you are describing bursitis, or an inflamed bursa. A bursa is a fluid filled sack that lies between the bones and areas of pressure. One of these bursas can be found on the side of the foot near the small toe (at the head of the 5th metatarsal). Depending on footwear or certain activities such as sitting with your legs crossed (lotus pose in yoga) there can be an increase in pressure to this area resulting in an inflamed bursa. Over the next week or two, try to avoid whatever footwear or activities that caused the pain. You can ice the area or take anti-inflammatories. If the pain persists I recommend seeing a Podiatrist for further evaluation and treatment options.
