foot pain that comes & goes

I have burning tingling pain covering the entire bottom of both feet. By the end of the day it is worse & I can hardly stand & walk. It lasts for a month or 2 & then goes away completely for a few months & then comes back again. I have had this for about 4 years now. I am a 51 year old woman. I stand all day for my job. I have tried inserts in my shoes & I wear good shoes. I recently had an MRI for MS & it came back negative. I would appreciate any suggestions you might have. Thanks, Cathy

Thank you for your question, Cathy. Although there can be a variety of reasons for foot pain, the distribution and quality of your pain sounds like it could be associated with compression to the tibial nerve. The tibial nerve runs along the inside of the ankle through an area referred to as the “tarsal tunnel”. A variety of conditions can lead to compression of the tibial nerve including ankle edema or varicose veins. I recommend seeing your Podiatrist as they can evaluate you further to rule out possible causes for nerve compression.
