Foot pain in the ankle and tendon that is related to back issues

After visiting 6 doctors for foot pain in my left ankle and just below the ankle, having a normal MRI, CAT Scan and Xray,I was told by the last Doctor (a podiatrist) that it might be referred pain from a back nerve. He recommended seeing an ortho surgeon to take an Xray.

Could it be possible that this theory could be a correct one. I”veI been suffering for almost 3 mos. and no one yet has given me a diagnosis (including an ankle doctor).

Thank you for your question. When approaching foot and ankle pain, it is important to define what type of pain you are experiencing. Is it a burning type pain? Or a sharp shooting pain? Do you feel it when you are sitting? Or only when you are standing or walking? Do you have a history of a back injury? All of these answers are important when considering causes of unresolved foot pain and the possible involvement of the lower back. If it is in fact coming from your lower back you’d want to see a neurologist or pain specialist versus an orthopedist.

    Hope this helps!
