Foot pain

I have horrible foot pain in my left foot when I have been up on my feet for several hours. It is especially worse when I have been up on my feet and then if I sit down for a period of time and then try to get up again. I literally have to hold on to something before I can move at all then move very slowly. It doesn’t happen every day but when it does it is almost debilitating. If I go to bed with my feet hurting this badly and then wake up and need to go to the restroom then I have trouble mobilizing and again have to hold on to something to gain my stability. Once I have made it to my destination and I get up to go back, the pain is not as bad. It’s just the initial movement after having rested. Any answers would be appreciated.

Hello and thank you for your question.

What you are describing is what’s called post-static dyskinesia or pain after rest. This is a very common symptom of plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis etc. If you have not started any stretching or foot release/massage I would do at least 5 – 10 minutes twice a day.

I would also start taking an anti-inflammatory such as Advil or Aleve. Always take with food and do not take for more than 2 weeks. In addition, you want to make sure that you are wearing supportive footwear and possibly may benefit from an insert. You can also try wearing supportive orthotics. You may want to consider seeing a Podiatrist if after 2 weeks of stretching and foot release your foot pain still persists.

    I hope this helps.
