Follow up to the post about calluses

Dear Doctor,
I read your recent reply to the person who inquired about calluses that keep coming back. I have the same issue eventhough I am an avid Aetrex orthotic wearer. Once a year, I visit my dermatologist and he removes my calluses. Can you recommend anything else that would help my calluses that perhaps I don’t know about?
Thank you.

Thank you for your question. When it comes to callus formation we need to remember that our feet make calluses in response to excess shear and pressure. Depending on foot type and level of activity, each person’s foot will make calluses at different rate and in different locations. Outside of routine foot care and callus removal, the best thing is to get a biomechanical exam from your Podiatrist who can explain why you are forming the calluses and what else can be done to prevent the callus formation.
