Can wearing flip flops often, cause great toe and the foot pad just behind the toe to become painful?

Hello and thank you for your question. Depending on your foot type and condition of your big toe pain, flip flops can create extra stress to the great toe joint. Because a flip flop can easily fall off the foot when walking, we must contract the toes to keep the shoe in place.

This can create excess stress to different parts of the foot. If you find traditional flat flip flops create toe pain, then I would recommend wearing a sandal that has a back strap or is more stable on the foot. Irritation to the great toe will calm down after a week or two. I hope this helps!
