Flat Feet, Mallet toes, Corns

I have flat feet and have noticed that my toe are becoming mallet like(not sure). On my right foot the fourth toe is bending at the tip and just before the nail it is hard and painful. ive tried straightening them with my fingers but this causes extreme pain

Also on my left foot, second toe its bending downwards at the centre of the toe. i had a corn and used Dr. Scholls corn remover plasters which made it worse. The area has become darker and the skin is wrinkled. It looks horrible>

Ive been to a podiatrist but all he said was he couldnt do anything about it.

Please help and advise me on what to to. Im really embaressed to show my feet. cant even where sandals.

Thanks in advance

Thank you for your question. Contractures and rotation of the toes are very common and can be associated with tight shoes, certain foot types and muscle imbalances. Toe contractures can be classified as either flexible, meaning you can make the toe straight, or rigid, meaning you cannot move the toe out of the contracted position. In addition to the concern of appearance, contracted toes can lead to excess pressure in shoes, corns and calluses.

There are several treatment options for contracted toes and the corns associated with them. If the contracted toes are causing pain in shoes you can try to a variety of gel or silicone pads. If the pain is on the ball of the foot, you can try what’s called a metatarsal pad. Both of these treatments are designed to minimize pain and the formation of corns, calluses. If you want to actually correct the contracture, the only option is surgery.

The surgery for contracted toes is fairly straight forward with minimal loss of activity or complications. If you are interested in learning more about the surgical option, look for a Podiatrist who does surgery.

    Good luck!
