I was diagnosed with capsulitis – second toe. Not sure of the treatment. Wearing orthotics that the PDM recommended. The burning in the toe is less, however not completely gone. It has been about 2 months since the diagnosis was confirmed. Please advise if you can what other treatment might be recommended. I am a runner..low mileage. Thank you

Hello and thank you for your question.

Capsulitis in the 2nd digit can benefit greatly from steroid injections. Steroids are very effective at decreasing inflammation, especially in the small joints of the foot & ankle. If you are opposed to the steroid injection you can try to tape the 2nd digit to the 3rd to decrease stress going through the joint.

Another good option is icing the foot or using a topical anti-inflammatory cream. All of these options can be discussed further with your Podiatrist.

    I hope this helps!
