Can’t bend toe

My left foot has been bothering me for awile. It gets better than worse. It started out feeling like I had a rock under my 2nd and 3rd toes at the ball of my foot. Now I can’t completely bend my 2nd toe and it hurts where my 2nd toe meets .my foot in front. It also feels swollen around the toe at the ball but there is no visible swelling. Sometimes it’s just irritating and sometimes I can’t put weight on it.

Hello and thank you for your question.

Without examining your foot it is hard for me to say for sure. However you are describing the classic presentation for a neuroma. Neuromas can often feel like you are stepping on a pea or a wrinkle in your sock with pain or stimulation when you are pushing off to take a step or lunging back.

You can start by massaging your feet on a golf ball, wearing wider shoes and using what’s called a metatarsal pad (http://www.easierliving.com/hapad-metatarsal-pads.html).

If the pain persists then I suggest seeing a Podiatrist who can discuss the benefit of cortisone or alcohol injections for neuromas.

    I hope this helps.
