Ever since I can remember my big toes have always pointed upwards and never laid flat. Is this a genetic thing or something else?
Hello and thank you for your question. It is often a biomechanical associated imbalance called hallux extensus however to correct it usually is surgery. You can try to release your extensors by rolling the front of your shin with a RAD Roller (www.radroller.com) and then strengthening your flexors with an exercise called short foot. Most common patients with this complain of wearing a hole in the top of their shoes so you will want to look for shoes with taller toe boxes. I hope this helps!
