My big toe has been giving out for no reason and is sporadic. It lasts a few seconds. I do have a bunion on both feet and also hammer toes. I am wondering if this big toe giving out problem is caused by my bunion. I am 56 years old. Thank you.
Hello and thank you for your question. I am not quite sure what you mean by “giving out”. Do you feel like there is weakness? Numbness? Do you occasionally trip over your foot?
It is possible that the bunion is contributing to what you are describing as there are muscle imbalances associated with bunions.
What you can do is try to keep the foot/great toe strong through exercises and stretches. Otherwise seeing a Podiatrist for a full examination would be beneficial.
