My athletic shoes feel uncomfortable in the toe area. I was thinking about going up 1/2 – 1 whole size. However, my concern is that they may be too big. My other non-athletic shoes fit fine. Any suggestions?
all the toes. I have bunions & hammer toes. My little toes are bent inward. My big toes are bent inward. The other toes are hammer toes.

When you say it is uncomfortable in the toe area – which toes are uncomfortable? It may be the size of the shoe but it also may be the brand of the shoe and the associated toe box shape.
Every shoe has a slightly different shape to the front of the shoe. If you feel that one brand isn’t working for your toe shape, I would consider finding another brand. If you simply go up in size you may then have a shoe that is too loose and then your foot moves in the shoe and you can get other foot issues.
Another consideration is you may fit fine in the shoe but you are sliding forward during your workouts. If this is the case you may want to reconsider the lacing you have on your shoes so that the shoe is tighter around the top of your foot. You can find different lacing techniques online with some specifically designed to prevent your foot from sliding forward.
